Are you looking for a great weekend getaway for you and your favorite someone?
Frankenmuth is a beautiful Bavarian town where you can find delicious chicken dinners, experience German culture in the shops, architecture, and restaurants, and have a great date night!
Bring your sweetie to Frankenmuth and surprise them with a carriage ride, music and dancing, beer and wine tastings, kayak adventures, and of course, shower them with chocolate.
Here are seven things for couples to do in Frankenmuth.
7 Things for Couples to Do in Frankenmuth
1. Fantasy Carriage Company

If you want to surprise your significant other, reserve your spot for a horse carriage ride around Frankenmuth.
This is a unique activity to end your evening.
You will be driven around downtown Frankenmuth and the neighborhood while enjoying a fun and informative tour from the driver.
On cool nights, you can snuggle up with your sweetie under a blanket on your horse-driven carriage ride, making it a truly romantic date.
The fee for the horse carriage ride is a bit pricy, but the experience is worth it.
The Fantasy Carriage cost for a horse ride of 15 minutes is $50.
The company takes a couple of pictures before the ride, one by the horse and one inside the carriage, and you can purchase a printed 5 x 7 after the ride is finished for $25.
If you want to reserve your ride ahead of time, you can call them at 989-245-1891 for reservations.
You can pick your ride up at 780 Mill Street, which is south of Zehnder’s.
Fantasy Carriage Company rates for Walk Ups:
- $50 for 15 Minutes
- $95 for 30 minutes
- $185 for 1 hour
- $275 for 1.5 hours (based upon request and availability)
This is a great way to finish your jam-packed day exploring Frankenmuth.

I took my nephew on vacation to Frankenmuth and splurged on a horse-drawn carriage ride.
He had so much fun with the horse and riding around and seeing the town from another angle.
It was definitely worth the price to see the smile on his face!
2. Fischer Platz

Fischer Platz can be found south of the Bavarian Inn Restaurant parallel to Main Street.
During the summer days and evenings, this is the place to be for lively entertainment.
After walking around Frankenmuth and browsing through all the unique shops, Fischer Platz can be your end-of-the-day stop for grabbing something to eat and taking your sweetie for a spin around the dance floor.
You can order a Jumbo Pretzel, spicy pickle fries, and a German cookie, or if you and your date are ravenous, order the Frankenmuth 2-piece Chicken meal or the Mother Clucker Spicy Chicken Sandwich.
For your musical pleasure, Linda Lee, who has played here regularly since 1979, will entertain you with her fabulous accordion playing.
This outdoor music cafe is an excellent reminder of the outdoor beer gardens of Germany and is open Thursdays and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Fridays and Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.
3. Frankenmuth Brewery

If you are interested in craft brews or microbreweries, Frankenmuth Brewery should be on your must-visit list as it is America’s Oldest Microbrewery and Michigan’s Original Craft Brewery, in operation since 1862.
Stopping in here for lunch is something I love to do when I’m visiting Frankenmuth.
I plop myself down and order a burger and then get to choose a beverage from their extensive lineup of draft beers.

During the summer, you can bring your date and sit outside on the patio overlooking Cass River and order delicious pub food, or just come by for a drink or two or three.
Frankenmuth Brewery’s taproom offers 21 draft beers that change throughout the year from the 36 varieties of craft beer brewed onsite.
My favorite is the American Blond Ale, but if you want to try one of the most popular craft beers, order the HEF.
All of the Frankenmuth Brewery beer is produced in-house and features German, Belgian, and American style lagers and ales.

The Frankenmuth Brewery is open on Thursdays and Sundays from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Fridays and Saturdays from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The Frankenmuth Brewery is at 425 South Main Street.
4. Frankenmuth FunShips Tastings and Tours

For a romantic date idea, consider taking a boat tour on the Cass River and enjoy a wine and chocolate tasting in a personalized setting.
The unique part of the boat tour is that the boats are all electric, so you get to enjoy a boat ride devoid of motor noise leaving you to listen to the birds chirping while you ride down the river.
You also get a relaxing and informative tour from your captain.
If you don’t want to take the boat ride, you can enjoy the wine and chocolate tastings in their tasting room.
The Wine & Chocolate River Tour is $25/person and lasts one hour.
You get five wines paired with five handmade chocolates, a full glass of your favorite wine, a stemless souvenir wine glass, and two additional wine samples of your choice.
There are other river tours offered that last 30 minutes ($10/person) or an hour ($15/person).
Adult beverages are available aboard all of the river tours.
Frankenmuth FunShips is located at 445 South Main Street.
5. Frankenmuth Kayak Adventures

If you are looking for an adventurous date activity, consider renting a kayak and gliding along on Cass River with Frankenmuth Kayak Adventures.
You and your date can take a self-guided tour and experience the calming effect of paddling in the great outdoors on the river.
If you are interested, you can rent a kayak for an hour for $15 for a single kayak to sit in or sit on top of the kayak.
A double kayak is $25.

If you want a bigger adventure, sign up to take the Tuscola to Frankenmuth Kayak Adventure.
You can paddle on the river for approximately two hours, and transportation is included in the cost of $28 for a single kayak and $45 for a double.
If you have your own kayak, canoe, or paddleboard and just need a lift, you can get dropped off upstream for $5/person.
This is an easy way to get some paddling done with your partner and end up at your car in downtown Frankenmuth.
6. Modern Craft Winery

Another fun date activity is to enjoy a delicious wine tasting at Modern Craft in the River Place Shops.
Modern Craft is an innovative wine experience originating from a fruit infusion process that makes everyday wine extraordinary.
The purpose of these fruit wines is to mix them with other drinks and beverages to make an even better beverage.
I stopped in there and tried five different wine samples for $6.
There are white and red wines, naturally fruit-infused wines, specialty wines, limited release wines, and #getinthemcmix wines.

I naturally tend to drink sweet and fruit-flavored wines, so this winery was right up my alley.
The bartender has a wealth of knowledge on the wines and which ones are great to mix together that aren’t even on the menu.
You and your date will enjoy the flavors so much that you will want to take quite a few bottles home with you.
Trust me.
I did just that!
7. Zac & Mac’s Chocolate Haus

For all of those who have a sweet tooth, you have to bring your date to Zac & Mac’s Chocolate Haus.
The minute you walk through the door, your senses will be overwhelmed with the scent of chocolate.
You can watch them in their kitchen making these sweet, tantalizing small-batch chocolates, and then turn around to purchase a bunch to take home with you to share with each other later.
They have delicious toffee, fudge, buttery brittle, sea salt chocolate, caramel corn, chocolate-covered Oreo cookies, fruits, and potato chips.

There are so many options for you to choose from, you might end up staying inside the store for a while.
You can find Zac & Mac’s Chocolate Haus at 636 South Main Street.
Enjoy the chocolate!
